HVAC Repair in Alameda County: Fremont, Newark and Sunol

The short answer

ComfortFlow travels from San Jose to repair furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps in Fremont, Newark and Sunol. Bay Area Air District rules don't force you to replace working equipment, but they're worth considering when a repair is major and the system is older.

ComfortFlow HVAC Contractor repairs heating and cooling systems for homeowners in southern Alameda County, including Fremont, Newark and Sunol. We're based in San Jose, about 23 miles away, so we schedule our Alameda County visits ahead of time. Whether your furnace won't light, your air conditioner is blowing warm air, or a heat pump keeps short-cycling, our goal is to find the actual cause and explain your options plainly.

Heating and cooling problems we fix

Most calls come down to a handful of issues. We test the whole system to find the cause instead of swapping parts until something works.

  • Furnaces that won't ignite, shut off early, or blow cold air
  • Air conditioners that run but don't cool, freeze up, or trip breakers
  • Heat pumps that short-cycle, get stuck in defrost, or struggle in one mode
  • Thermostat, wiring and control board faults
  • Weak airflow from clogged filters, failing blower motors or duct problems
  • Refrigerant leaks and clogged condensate drains

What to expect from a repair visit

We start by asking what you've noticed: noises, smells, when the problem started, and whether it happens every cycle or only sometimes. Then we test the equipment. We check electrical components, airflow and, where relevant, refrigerant, and show you what we found.

You get a clear explanation of the repair before any work begins. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you what it is and why it's needed. We'll also talk through whether a temporary fix makes sense in the meantime.

Repair or replace under Bay Area Air District rules

Alameda County is under the Bay Area Air District, and its appliance rules have many homeowners wondering whether they need to act now. The rules don't require replacing working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced.

Under Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx standard. In practice, that points toward heat pumps for furnace replacements after that date. Keep this in mind if your furnace is older and needs a major repair. For water heaters, the zero-NOx date under Rule 9-6 was set for 2027. The Air District Board is considering amendments in November 2026 that could delay it, so check the current rule before planning a water heater replacement.

Heat pump incentives right now

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It isn't available for new installations after that date. Local programs may still help. BayREN and your local clean energy provider offer heat pump and electrification incentives that change with each funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before including it in a quote.

Serving Fremont, Newark and Sunol

Conditions vary across the area. Newark and western Fremont sit close to the Bay, while Sunol lies inland among the hills, where summer afternoons often run warmer and air conditioners work harder. We factor in those differences when a system seems undersized or overworked.

Because we travel from San Jose, we'll give you a realistic arrival window when you book and let you know if anything changes.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Diagnosis Before Recommendations

We find out why the system failed before suggesting parts or new equipment. You'll know what's wrong and why, not just what we want to replace.

  2. Straight Answers on Repair vs. Replace

Sometimes a part replacement gets you several more good seasons. Sometimes it's money spent on equipment that's near the end. We'll tell you which one we think applies and explain our reasoning.

  3. Current Information on Rules and Incentives

Bay Area appliance rules and rebate programs change. We check the current details before we talk numbers or timelines with you, so you aren't planning around outdated information.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you really come to Fremont, Newark and Sunol from San Jose?

Yes. Those communities are about 23 miles from our base, and we schedule Alameda County visits in advance so we can give you a realistic arrival window.

Do I have to replace my gas furnace because of the new Air District rules?

No. The Bay Area Air District rules don't require replacing working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced.

Should I repair my old furnace or switch to a heat pump?

It depends on the furnace's age, the repair needed and your plans. Because gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx standard, a major repair on an older unit is a good time to compare options. We'll walk you through both.

Can I still get the federal tax credit for a heat pump?

No. The federal 25C credit covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025, and isn't available for new installations after that date. BayREN and local clean energy providers may have current incentives.

What's happening with water heater rules?

The zero-NOx date for small water heaters under Rule 9-6 was set for 2027, but the Air District Board is considering amendments in November 2026 that could delay it. Check the current rule before planning a replacement.

Do you repair heat pumps as well as furnaces and air conditioners?

Yes. We diagnose and repair heat pumps, furnaces, central air conditioners, thermostats and related airflow problems.
